In the 1986 episode “‘Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas,” the girls all plan to visit their respective families for Christmas, but since it’s a sitcom, their plans are completely derailed when they are held hostage by Bernie Lomax dressed as Santa Claus at Rose’s Grief Counseling Center. But fret not! As travel is impossible, they reconvene at a diner and are allowed to take ownership for an hour.
In “Have Yourself a Very Little Christmas,” the Golden Girls volunteer at a homeless shelter on Christmas day and are surprised to find that Stan has been thrown out on the streets by his wife. His latest novelty toy venture has tanked, and with nowhere else to go, he winds up at the shelter. The girls take pity on him because, you know, the spirit of Christmas!
Yes, we have a great time trying to decide who our favorite was, and which Golden Girl we each are. So sit out on the lanai, hang up your calendar of the men of Blanche’s boudoir, eat some cheesecake in memory of Betty White, and dig into this episode!
