What’s up, dudes? Happy 3 year anniversary! Yes, it’s been 3 years of ‘80s Christmas to the max! Enjoy my full theme song! I originally released this to celebrate 100 days to Christmas! Even though I want to redo a few things in the recording, hopefully this helps make your season bright…or at least start getting you into the spirit of things! Anyway, enjoy! S4E187: Kay·Bee Toys (w/ Nicholas and Matt)

What's up, dudes? Shopping for toys should be one of the JOYS OF CHRISTMAS! That’s right! I’ve got Nicholas Pepin of Pop Culture Roulette and Santa Ambassador Matt Spaulding from  North Pole Radio here to talk all about Kay·Bee Toy & Hobby Shops, known later as KB Toys!

It was the toy store in the mall, and we loved it!  When mom and dad went to check out the deals on new appliances at Sears, we checked out the aisles full of action figures and playsets! Fully stocked shelves and NES games behind the counter, Kay·Bee took our fun seriously! And they definitely never treated us like a grinch!

It gave us good service, good prices, good selection, and convenient locations in shopping malls across the country. Billed as full-time, year-round toy specialists, they had large selections in all categories. They were fully stocked with an immense variety of toys, dolls, games, hobbies, HO trains, road racing, doll house miniatures, and much, much more! In fact, you could even pick up these items in they’re “what Santa forgot” after Christmas sales!

As well, they wanted us to be around after the holidays (presumably to buy more toys, of course).

G.I.Joes? Check. Garbage Pail Kids? By the register. Puppets in their commercials? Definitely! So call up your crew, head to the mall, and hang out in this episode!

S4E186: Moonlighting pt2 (w/ Michael, Karen and Ken)

What’s up, dudes? If your stocking gets stolen and your tree can't be found, you may as well call us 'cause we'll be around. We have to work Christmas, so if you're in a pinch, just give Blue Moon a jingle and ask for the Grinch. That’s right! Karen Flieger from The Retro Network, Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas, and Michael Christelman of the Saturday Morning Mafia are here to talk the “Moonlighting” Christmas episode It’s a Wonderful Job!

When the staff rebels after being forced to work on Christmas, Maddie (Cybill Shepherd) wishes she had never kept Blue Moon Detective Agency open. Enter Albert, her angel, the Clarence to her George Bailey. Albert shows her how everyone’s lives could’ve turned out had her wish been granted, ultimately culminating in her alternate self’s apparent suicide. With her wish to live renewed and the dawning realization of the impact their lives have on each other, Maddie celebrates Christmas and gives the office staff time to do likewise! Oh, and there’s a juicy kiss with David too! Will they? Won’t they?

Yes, “Moonlighting” had it all! Fletch’s boss as an angel? Check. Cheryl Tiegs cameo? Yup. Dynamic chemistry? Definitely! So grab your angel, let him show you around, and take the elevator to this fourth wall-breaking episode!

S4E185: Batman Monthly (w/ Thom and Matt)

S4E185: Batman Monthly (w/ Thom and Matt)

What’s up, dudes? Christmas Eve in Gotham: uptown, the streets are filled with last-minute shoppers and the cheering jingle of chimes. But here, in the forgotten part of the city, the streets are almost deserted, save for a handful of scavengers and their unfortunate victim—and the very special sort of vengeance which lurks in the sheltering shadows! That vengeance is Santa Ambassador Matt Spaulding from  North Pole Radio and Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast who join me to talk “Batman Monthly,” a 1988 UK comic from London Editions Magazine which reprinted older Batman stories.

Volume 6 contains two classic Batman stories. In "Have Yourself a Deadly Little Christmas," Batman races to rescue a young girl from death by suicide. In his way stands the Blockbuster! In "Silent Night, Deadly Night," Denny O'Neil tells a tale of redemption when Batman helps a desperate and disgruntled former employee of a toymaker make up for his misdeeds.

With the likes of Len Wein, Denny O'Neil, and Dick Giordano on these stories in "Batman Monthly," the Batman's humanity shines through! Christmas tree lot fight? Yup. Attempted strangulation with Christmas lights? Of course. Bruised and beaten Santas? Definitely. So grab your pipe tobacco present, hop in the Batmobile, and drive into this episode!

S4E184: Nintendo Power (w/ Mike and Chad)

What's up, dudes? NES was the greatest thing ever in the '80s! In fact, it was so great they made a magazine about it! I've got Mike Westfall of  Advent Calendar House and Chad Young from Horror Movie BBQ here with me to dive into the memories of the ‘88 and ‘89 November/December issues of the bimonthly Nintendo Power magazine! Beginning in 1988, Nintendo Power was the brainchild of Howard Phillips and Gail Tilden, and was the natural evolution of the Nintendo Fun Club, used as a customer retention marketing tool and sales predictor. Yo, and it worked! From favorites to flops, we get into all of it! Remember Faxanadu? We sort of do. What about Track and Field II? No? Think Olympic button smasher! I know you remember Mega Man II, Super Mario Bros 3, Castlevania, Metroid, and more! There were also polls and articles, contests and cartoons! That’s right! Howard and Nester showed us both sides of gaming and kept us in stitches at the same time! Draw your faves on an envelope or write to a game counselor! Win a trip to Disney or maybe Bill and Ted’s phone booth. Either way leave the power glove, take the control pad! So grab your snacks, get your bean bag chair ready, and marathon this episode!
